Training
Whiskey Grain Kennels is a full time training and breeding facility focused on creating the best hunting companions for the field and your family. We are located in Northwest Illinois but during the summer you can find us all over the state training in various locations. We take client dogs from the age of 5 months and up and go through our proven program to make the best hunting partner possible.
I’m Steven Frymire, owner and trainer here at WGK. I was born and raised in Northern Illinois where I developed a passion for the outdoors hunting and fishing with my father, uncles, and cousins at a very early age. I spent a lot of my first years of hunting chasing deer, waterfowl, and upland all across our family farm. I’ve always grown up with dogs and loved hunting with them. I graduated college from Illinois State University in Spring of 2018, and already had made a deposit on a puppy earlier that year, so I could have one right when I graduated. Knowing how much I hunt waterfowl, I knew I wanted to make the most well versed waterfowl retriever I could, so I took all the necessary steps to ensure she would be able to hold her own in any situation. Traveling across Illinois hunting with friends, and friends of friends, people were very impressed with my dog. One thing led to another and I started helping friends with their dogs, then their friends, and then it quickly escalated into a full training business. This has allowed to make friends with trainers and handlers across Illinois and train in a variety of different places. I have been able to travel all over the Midwest the past couple of years to compete in hunt tests and have made great friends with a ton of experience along the way. I started doing this because of how much I love hunting and watching dogs work. I still love that more than anything, but now I look forward to training season just as much as hunting season.
